Problem with speed on my website
« on: November 13, 2007, 12:00:24 PM »
Hi

I use website baker for the following website..
http://www.uuwt.org

I find that the pages are sometimes really slow to load and often it hangs altogether. I don't know what is causing it.n It is happening alot now. Could anyone click on the link and see if they have this problem? if so any advice for me? I am checking with my web host. I use fasthosts and they are normally very good. I also had this same problem when i tested this site on another server with a different host.
I do not have any content heavy pages and all the images are a good resolution and not too large.

Thanks
Holly

Well, I have opend all the pages at least 10 times.

And I did have for some page switching a small delay of 2 of 3 seconds.
But no hanging or stuff like that.

It may not be the server and could be either your computer or the time you tried to access the pages. It could have been really busy at the moment you tried accessing the pages yourself or the problem is on your end on your system.
First thing you should do is go to your MSDOS black screen, if you have XP type in your run command CMD or command
Your black screen will open, type in at the c prompt ping http://www.uuwt.org this will bring you back your sites IP address. This only works if you are using dedicated servers , not shared which most people use. With the IP address type it into your browser and see if your pages load faster. By doing this you are bypassing the nameserver on the network and dialing directly to where your website files are located.
You may also need to clean your computer up a little. A little trick is to run a MSCONFIG command in the run section. Go to Start up tab and make sure nothing is check marked and restart your system. This will stop programs from running when windows wants to run. Once it restarts check the window to never show this message again. Your computer should be running much faster. If you own Vista, sorry, go back to XP its not worth the hassle.
But same applies with extra windows to click then XP
If you have any other issues let me know I am a professional web designer and pc tech.
Take care and good luck
