new website using WB and CSS
« on: May 09, 2006, 10:31:07 PM »
My latest website using website baker and CSS style sheets.

www.elimhereford.org.uk

Question: are there any more calendar or events modules that I can try out, or suggestions?

Yes, it's not a good practice to put 1600 X 1200 pixel images on a page then scrunch them down in the HTML. If you want people to be able to see the larger image, the make a small one and have it link to the larger image. Even then an 800 pixel picture is a large web image.

And I don't believe that there are any other calendar modules for WebsiteBaker. I put events on a news page then link to them in calendar module. It's clunky but it works. http://ptslug.org/

I am also looking for a eventmodule with more functionality than the existing ones. I myself am not a php-programmer but wouldn't it be possible to modify the news module in an event publishing module.

In the news module we can use groups which can be used for categories of events (for example music, sport, cinema etc etc). We have a link to a page with more information and can use links and images in that page). We have a date we can use for the date of the event. (what we really need in the modded module is the function from the news xtd module to enter an date that the event must be deleted -normally the day after the event has taken place!- so there is no old information). A location field would be nice.

Then of course we have to decide how to display the events. With a search function we have to decide how to display the events. Todays events of a certain categorie, all categories,  all events of this week, month, or use a little calendar to pick a date. Nice of course would be repeating events and events over more than one day.
And in future maybe we can use WB's log-in facilities to have registered people add events.

For functionality have a look at http://www.phplite.com (calendar express) or http://www.helioscalendar.com

Maybe the php-experts can think about this and give some respons.

My site is under serious construction at the moment. But so far I've decided to integrate the google calendar into my site. It's quite easy. Here's a link:

I don't really have any events logged in yet, but at least you can imagine it better.

I like your site
