Formating and Desgn ideas?

I have a client that wishes to list products but not actually sell them. I can acheive this using bakery and removing all the add to cart buttons etc from the item detail and overviews but we have one additional requirement that I am not sure if it is possible.

site will have on single bakery page.  When an item is selected in the items overview the detail will be shown but then we wish to also still show the items overview below the currently selected item detail

Does anyone know if this is possible?  Perhaps I can hack it a bit using the lastitems snippet?   

Id appreciate any infomation on this. Off to start experimenting myself now
