Is it time for another CMS

Hi all,

I am seriously thinking of moving to another CMS, don't get me wrong I love WB and it's fun to use but I find modules  no longer get updated and this causes problems for me.

When you look at other CMS systems with addons they are worked on and updated all the time.

I criticize WB quite a lot, but I can't get your point.

Addons / modules are mostly borne by the community. When somebody doesn't have time / fun / knowledge anymore to maintain a module, and nobody want's to bring it further, it's dead (at least when there are new version of the Core system, we speak here of WB).

You can look around - all (I really mean all, without exception) CMS have many "dead" modules. Seriously, some have more dead modules and other's not that much, but that's not the point.
If you like module X and some day the maintainer says "Don't have time, another should do it" - that's it.

There are only two possibilities to avoid this problems:
$1: Program modules yourself. Seriously.
$2: If $1 is no option for you: $1 is your option, but instead making yourself hire a programmer and pay him/here to do it for you.

There are no other possibilities. And statistics about "modules for CMS X last 5 years, for Y 4 years" are nonsense.

I think the real problem is that there's no addons repository that is really up-to-date. AMASP isn't since erpe does not follow WB anymore. (It's not his fault, he only does not run after the module devs to upgrade they're modules anymore.) And the "official" page never really wasn't up-to-date and lists just a few modules. Additionally, some module developers will never get they're modules listed there, because they are treated as "black sheeps".

As always, the problem is not WB itself. (Fill in the rest by yourself.)

I do get frustrated with WB quite often, especially when a clients wants soemthing and there is no ready module or dropelt/snippet that does the job. I'm no coder, so I feel stuck sometimes. So I went to WordPress the last weeks, and tried to develop 2 sites with it. I loved the big number of themes en plugins available, and the ease of use in some aspects. But in general I felt more frustrated with WP than with WB.

I find WB to be far more logical and user friendly in most aspects. Ever tried to customize a WP theme or create your own? You'll pull your hair out in despair when you're a regular HTML/CSS guy. WB templates are very easy to create and to modify on the other hand, as they are little more than regular HTML/CSS.

I can go on and on, but the fact is 'm back to WB. It's far from perfect. And so is WP, and probably any other CMS. If you're looking for a blog/magazine type site, I'll turn to WP, but for any regular site I prefer WB.

But I agree the addons update/repository/management of WP is superior compared to WB.

agree with Argos... I also develop/design at lot on Wordpress (cause some customers just
want so...) but WebsiteBaker CMS is still more a real CMS... Wordpress got like 20.000 plugins
but 1/3 just doesn't work (also) and is... do not forget.. started as a blog...(!) not a 'website'.

The 'core' of WB is more clean, logical and flexible to develop and design on... but some modules
need some 'kick under the butt' to make em work... And also the development time in WB is much
(2x) shorter then any other CMS I (profesionally) work with.

Agree with all responses, especially:
1. WB is superior (made 3 WP, 2 CMSMS and 1 other sites) and:
2. the AMASP should have a decent successor. PLEASE!! I'm not a code but if I can help in some way here, I'm willing to help with such a feature. It's very frustrating to have to look the whole forum to find (if your's lucky) the latest working version of a module are.

Yepp. Or the module developers should maintain there modules listed there.

Yeah, AMASP does a decent enough job. The listing at the WB site is very bad, and should be removed. It's confusing too, as newbies may think that's it.
