Suggestion: Preload Images
« on: April 28, 2008, 12:55:09 AM »
I had an idea for a module or code snippet and wanted to suggest it - for mostly selfish reasons but I do think it might be generally useful.

Basically some way to allow user to easily preload some images/resources for the site. In my case I'll have 3 images used in my templates sitewide that are a little heavy. It would be great to be able to add a preload module or snippet that would allow me to easily type in the image/resource  locations and have the file preloaded.

-I tried this and it does work (you can go to my site and click on 'Home' to see it) but I'd love to be able to add an effect like this to it (click on Nice Mountain View) and have the preload finish then load the page. That is because there is no guarentee they will always come in through the main page if they use a search engine for example.

The way I see it working the first time a person comes to any page on your site the overlay "Optimizing Website ..." is called and preloads those assets.

If someone did decide to do something like this to release on the forums I would be glad to create any images that might be needed for it -for example if you wanted to create an animated timer or hourglass or progress bar while the "Your / Optimizing Website ..." message was working..
