You ask whether it is a good idea to have another module with more options. I say yes. 
The only disadvantage is the size of the module. Is it still installable for everyone?

Maybe not the right place to discuss about this, then sorry for that...

i build a new version of the old swift-gallery. you can select a single folder under /media and display a start picture and a row of thumb on the right side of the start pic. The output works (like the original module) without any open effect. It looks okay, if you have only 4-6 Pictures in the selected folder and thats my use for a customer. if you've more pics in the folder, it goes longer and longer in the thumblist. Maybe its better, to have a horizontale thumb-list at the bottom or a switch in the module-settings

We've also the Brax_Highslide-B-Module with the same funktion, read a single folder from media, add some picture settings, result/output is a list with thumbs, to open with a js-effect

And here, we've the project from netraam, minimal settings, but it use also the subfolders from a selected medai directory.

QUESTION: is it a good idea, to combine modules with nearly the same function to one single module?
After adding a new section, you get a select box with the 3 submodules and the rest works with switches in every module file. Every module has his own setting, his own output, his own open effects, if needed. You can add multiple sections with this 3 submodules (or with the same)

From my point possible to code, but is it a good solution for the users?

What is the next module in the folder /modules after the captcha_control-folder?
this one makes the problems
normalize, it must be one from the ModuleWhiteList (see this file in install-folder of the WB-package)

for a fast help, you can rename the file upgrade.php to something else, recommended: upgrade_orig.php (orig for "original") in this next folder after captcha_control-folder

If the upgrade-script not found a file with the name "upgrade.php" in the module-mainfolder, it goes to the next folder

But..... 
i'm wondering about the error message and not sure, whats happend. The only point in the upgrade-script, where it use the function rm_full_dir() is there, when it start to remove some old files. The error say's, the function search in a directory, but this is empty, no files inside or it cannot read this folder.
but normalize, its not the right time, to start the function rm_full_dir()
i miss the other core modules in your upgraded list. next core-module after the captcha_control-module is the ckeditor, then code-module, then droplets etc. And the upgrade-script check only the core-modules, means everything in the folder /modules inside of the wb-package

the upgrade-script was nearly finish, when it stops, it checks the version numbers from the core-modules and upgrade this version-numbers, if needed.
After that step, it remove some unneeded files and thats all - so we can say, WB has to work

you can start the upgrade-script again (and again and again) if you want. Maybe the connection was broken for a second, but check the modules

if you get the same error, we can look at this, but need access to WB and FTP - or you send me a ZIP-File from the whole modules-Folder

I am on the way to upgrade the website of a friend. Last time I did that was in 2017 with 2.10 and the site was dean since 2021 because of the rising PHP versions.
I did the following:
1. Backup of all files from the website and the database.
2. Uploading unzip.php and the WebsiteBaker-2_13_6_R237.zip package.
3. Run unzip.php, starting the link in the admin panel, updating the config.php was successful.
4. Confirming all the switches and start.

For a short moment the upgrade runs and then stops at:

a general tip for all coders

since PHP 8.x the declaration of the data-type is more and more important. a simple example, to make the code more secure is here the (int) in the front of the Section-ID

in this case, its save, that $section_id must be a integer value - important for possible hijacking

if we need to handle a string, best solution to check this value is a intern WB-funtion, called StripCodeFromText(), that remove possible JS-Code from the submitted string and something more, like droplet-call etc

First problem in the install procedure.
The install-struct.sql.php contains this lines:

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `wb_mod_pixofcake` (
the first line is right. the second, with hardcoded table prefix, will not work in many cases.

The module works once you have figured out how to specify the URL It is not https://... and not media/myfolder. Must be /media/myfolder.
A hint as to what the URL should look like would be nice

Github use a special structure, good for developement, but not for the direct install as WB-module

Hi and Thanks for the job!! 

some rules...

• use language files, at minimum in englisch and german, possible in all 23 installed languages from WB
• your image folder must be the media-folder or a subfolder from MediaDirectory. Better as a free input field is a select box with this folders (see example in attachement)
• use a default value for both checkboxes in save.php. Use if(isset...) to read a submitted value, if not submitted, use the default value
• its better, to use integer fields for the checkbox values (0 or 1) or enum(), go'es faster and better to code
• prevent your install-struct.sql.php with a php-code in the top

es wäre die Frage, sieht den scheiternden Login sonst noch jemand mit IIS oder ist das womöglich unabhängig?

In der Vergangenheit wurden solche Anfragen mit dem Hinweis auf die Requirements beantwortet.
Ich versuch es mal ausführlicher. Hauptproblem ist (eigentlich schon immer) die "Übersetzung" von Zeichen innerhalb von PHP. Dabei geht es nicht um Sonderzeichen wie ä, ö oder ü, sondern eher um \ oder / oder auch nur einen Punkt. Das Gleiche gilt dann auch für MySql, z.b. mit einem Bindestrich im Tabellennamen.
Für den Code würde es bedeuten, das man praktisch zweigleisig fahren müßte, um beiden Systemen gerecht werden zu können.

Wo dein Login scheitert, kann man nur raten. Das Grundprinzip ist dabei recht einfach:

• Sende die Login-Daten, das sind mal mehr, mal weniger Daten, je nachdem, wo du dich einloggst, Front- oder Backend, mit oder ohne Captcha usw.
• Prüfe diese Daten, z.b. auf erlaubte Zeichen für Passwort und Username oder die Korrektheit des Captchas, wenn gesendet
• Prüfe, bin ich im Front- oder Backend
• Prüfe, ob es diesen User in der Datenbank gibt
• Wenn JA, lese seine Daten und aktualisiere sie (umfangreich von Zeitzone bis Gruppenrechte), ist alles ok, erstelle eine Session für diesen User, setze den Authenticated-Status
• Gibt es auf diesem Weg irgendwo ein NEIN, leite ihn zurück zum Login

Nun könnte man Schritt für Schritt nachgehen, wo es hakt. Meine Vermutung ist das Auslesen der Userdaten aus der DB und das Setzen des Authenticated-Status. Dieser wirkt praktisch wie ein Schalter, der den User als Legalen Nutzer im Backend freigibt, ein Schalter, der sich durch das komplette Backend zieht und auch im Frontend wirkt, wenn es dort um geschützte Bereiche geht.
Es gibt aber im gesamten Backend kaum eine einzelne PHP-Datei, die ohne eine Datenbank-Abfrage auskommt und es ist gut möglich, das dein gescheiterter Login nur der Auftakt für noch viel mehr solcher Probleme ist.
Wir haben weder das Personal, noch die technischen Möglichkeiten, WebsiteBaker für beide Server-Systeme funktionssicher zu programmieren und deshalb war die Empfehlung auf Apache seit Beginn Bestandteil von WB. Grundsätzlich denke ich, das es in Zukunft eher noch schwieriger wird, eine Anwendung für beide Server-Typen kompatibel zu halten. Schreibweisen und Deklarationen werden immer stricter, ein simpler Backslash ("\") hat unter Windows Server immernoch eine andere Bedeutung, oft als Escape-Zeichen benutzt bei Eingaben oder zur Kennzeichen von Literalwerten, in WB aber hundert- oder tausendfach als Teil von Namespaces verwendet. Das ließe sich jetzt eine Weile fortführen....

Ich weiß nicht, was ich dir nun empfehlen soll - na klar, der Verweis auf die Mindestanforderunge n. Sagt sich aber leicht, wenn man nicht in der Verantwortung steht. Auch, wenn ein Experte ein WebsiteBaker-System auch ohne Adminbereich pflegen könnte, ist das ja nicht der Sinn eines CMS.
Von außen aus gesehen, sollte ein Servertausch nach Vertragsänderung nicht mehr Aufwand bedeuten als ein Umzug zu einem anderen Provider, d.h. Backup der gesamten Dateien, Backup der Datenbank, beides auf neuem Server wieder einspielen, ggf ein paar Daten anpassen in der config.php
Aber es fehlt mir da jegliche Erfahrung, verzeih bitte, wenn ich da etwas übersehe oder falsch deute.

Abraten würde ich davon, nun durch Codeanpassungen zu versuchen, das Ganze wieder zum Laufen zu bekommen. Das ist oft nur eine kurzfristige Angelegenheit. Im Gegensatz zu früher sind die Provider nun schon bemüht, jede neue PHP-Version schnellstmöglich auch zugänglich zu machen und nicht jeder hat es selbst in der Hand, die auch auszuwählen.
