Title: Search Engine Design Thread
Post by: jerry on September 07, 2006, 02:40:48 AM
I want to say what a great piece of software WB is and how I appreciate all of the hard work that has gone into it! I have tested and used most CMSs based on PHP and MYSQL and WB is one of the best I have found for usability and search engine compatibility.

Speaking of search engine compatibility and wider online marketing issues - perhaps a forum thread could be created for online marketing? I would be interested in discussing aspects of WB design and future development relating to online marketing.

Of all of the CMSs I trialled, WB was one of the few that allowed META details to be set at the page level and the addition of tracking code (e.g. using Google Adwords and adding tracking code to the end of URLs to see what paid terms were most effective - www.site.com/pages/?source=google-terms).

I am in the process of developing an online marketing course that shows users how to develop a search engine compatible site from start to finish and WR is in the running for the CMS that I use in the course.

Thanks again for developing a CMS that is so user-friendly and that can also be used in search engine friendly site development!

Cheers,

Jerry  :-D

I like the idea of a SEO (search engine optimization) / web marketing forum here in the WebsiteBaker forums. What do other users think about that?

If you have any idea's for WB2 about SEO, please submit it in the relevant tracker.
Any idea's for WB3 should be placed in the WB3 "Idea's for WB3" thread.
If you have a look at some of the documents around with info about WB3, you will learn that it will be using mod_rewrite, which will maximize SEO ability, as it will allow for almost endless combinations of url formatting. I think that having a seperate board just for SEO and online marketing is not necessary. We already have a lot of boards as it is, so I think any threads about SEO/marketing should be able to fit inside at least one of them.

Why?

The actual version is perfect for this.

All you need is a good designed template.
Everything else is rubbish.

In that case, you'll be happy to hear that the default templates will get an overhaul in 2.7.x:

Also we might look into moving module CSS into template headers somehow. :-D

Hello Ryan,

that sounds great. I think WB 2.7 will be a revolution for cms systems.  :-D. If we got all the things that are planed working WB will definetly get one of the best CMS.

Well, i'll expect a revolution  :-D

I like CSS, especially when it becomes tricky.
So i'm glad to hear, that even the modules will be re-designed.

Hm, i think, for small to medium-sized projects, WB is already the best choice
