Title: International Help/Support
Post by: Ryan on January 16, 2006, 08:12:38 AM
Hello all,

After much demand, I have finally decided to open up internationalised subforums of the Help/Support section.
This way, users seeking help can finally use their preferred language.

To start off, we will only have German (as that is all that has been requested).
However, if you would like to volunteer to become a moderator for your own language, please post here and I would be happy to set up a subforum for you.

Thanks to all users for suggesting this to me - I think it is a great way to help support the growth of our community! :-D

Hello Ryan,

welcome back from your vacances. I hope you had a good time and could now work on your bakery with new power

Yes i think subforums for different languages is an good idea. I know some germans who asked for this and there are attemps to make own language forums. The better way is to make here subforums for different languages to keep all together.

So as stefan speaks german and english and is an excellent developper i hope he get the general moderator or admin of this subforum. And if i could help in any way too, i will do it.

Matthias

I have just posted a welcome thread in the German subforum.
Klaus and Matthias are now moderators.

I think the Dutch WB community is also strong enough for a subforum, but I wonder if there are really so many Dutch people who don't speak English sufficiently well.

Wise decision Ryan!

WB 2.6.1 is great and at the time I think there is no immediate need for WB 3.x.

Keep us posted.

I think the Dutch WB community is also strong enough for a subforum, but I wonder if there are really so many Dutch people who don't speak English sufficiently well.

I think that to!

A Dutch sub-Forum would be great but I don't think it's that urgend as we all speed good English and if the question is better asked or answered in Dutch we just do  [/s]

Hmm, ended up in the wrong topic  :|

Just wait and see how it developpes and what the demand is.

After all, questions and answers in a foreign language subforum will be hardly visited by others.
We might end up having a problem in a subforum wich allready has been dealt with in another.

John, throws 2 cts to this thread ;)

Hi..

My 2 cents....

Don't think this community is big egnufh to support multiple languages... Think the only thing that WB gain from this is that the use outside germany will be lower.

We should just continue with the english support. And for those few special cases that the user don't speak english use PM/Email. That way everyone can see the solutions for different problems.

As I said my 2 cents....

I understand your concerns.
I think we have to prevent two potential problems:
1. The splitting of problem-solving knowledge among the different language-communities
2. Ideas, tricks, etc. not reaching the developers

The first one can be addressed by (finally) creating a FAQ. The foreign-language moderators would have to translate questions and answers.
The second one can only be solved if the moderators directly translate such posts in the English part. Right now, the German forum is meant for support only. Suggestions are hopefully still posted in English.

But what is the alternative to all this? A separate forum for the German WB users? This splitting would have a much stronger impact.

Well, the way I see it, the non-english support boards should only be used by users that can't speak english, and I agree that moderators of the board should probably post a translated version of the question/answer in the english section for future reference. 8-)

Yes, that's the only way to be gone. I'm according Stefan and Ryan 100%. I will do as you suggest.

@Ryan, Stefan and Matthias,

I do agree with you all fully, and like you can see in the post http://forum.WebsiteBaker.org/index.php/topic,2225.msg13798.html#msg13798 I am trying to work already in this spirit ...

cheers

I don't think creating national forums is a good idea. I think there are very, very few webdesigners who can absolutely not manage to communicate at all in English. English is the major international language, and even more so on the internet. And if someone is really struggling with it, he can post in his own language and ask if someone will translate it. No need for separate forums, thats only confusing and creating more work for everyone.

@Argos:
That's what I always thought too. But there really were quite a few requests to open up a German section so there really is demand there.

and, since somebody ( :-o ) wanted to open a seperate german forum already ...

I think it's better kept here.

Ryan if you want new support, it may Turkish Support. I'm a language moderator on SMF (http://www.simplemachines.org)

I'm groving up WB System, I'm not ready at the moment. Later, will open Turkish Support.
I usually make themes and like it. :)

Some people want Turkish Support in this topic (http://forum.WebsiteBaker.org/index.php/topic,872.msg5422.html#msg5422)

Hey guys,

I am very glad to get information regarding website. Non-English school boards are utilized through users, who cannot speak in English.
