Title: User Webpages?
Post by: Dennis Cribbs on August 28, 2005, 12:48:48 AM
I was wondering if I could setup Baker so that users could sign up and create there own webpage

IE: Chase signs up, which makes his personal website http://www.domain.com/etc/etc/chase/

And Chase can only edit the pages in his home directory

I would suggest creating a new group for each person, then creating a main page for them, and only give them permissions to use that page (and using advanced permissions, disable their ability to add 0-level pages).
This can be done quickly and easily
BTW, jchord, these security issue's you talk about that are "VERY" bad - please share. If you are talking about the ones that I have resolved, please visit:

sry i went on vaca. i don't know if they still exzist in the latest verson and i don't have a facility to test it right now :( however in the version i was using then if there was two ore more wb installs in the same subdomian then when you login as the admin for one of them if you visit the other ones then you will find that it says that you are still loged on as "account name" eaven if no acount like that exzisist on that install. and you have the same permisions as your regular acount. more later sleep time

This is exactly the kind of functionality I was looking for - I'm a Network Manager for a school - A large proportion of our students want to use MySpace.com to create their own webpages, but due to internet security concerns, we've disabled access to those types of sites.

I'd like to allow our students to create their own pages, and WebsiteBaker is clearly an excellent product - But it looks like it would need a LOT of tweaking to meet my needs;

1; Student registration would need to be limited to one specific email domain.
2; Teacher registration would need to be limited to one specific email domain.
3; Students should not be able to edit other people's pages.
4; Students should only be able to upload Media to their own unique folder.

I doubt any of those requirements are overly simple to implement - My PHP skills are very basic, so i doubt I could do this on my own any time soon.

If anyone knows how to implement any of those features, of knows of another package that already has those features, please let me know.

Many thanks

Shaun

Considering your php skills and knowing there needs some scripting to be done to get what you want with WB

take a look at:
moodle, site@school
www.opensourcecms.c om is a good place to test drive them as admin
