Title: WB 2.8: ETA?
Post by: mercator on April 01, 2009, 10:20:16 AM
Hello,

It's April. Do we have a new arrival date for WB 2.8.

Regards,
Helmut

Projects Pages state (with all spelling mistakes left untouched):

Quote
The first RC wich includes all new features of the next version is planned for begin of March. After RC testing phase the Final release is planed for end of March.

So, looks like 11 - 12 months away.

That was true for the 2.7 version... Hopefully, this is not true this time. Thanks anyone for a less sarcastic answer...

The Project is run by very few people who do have other daytime jobs. What about you two? You could try to help out!

Anyway, the current roadmap also shows, that most of the tickets have been dealt with.

cheers

Hi,

As Klaus said, WB is made by a small group of people with a day job. And why such a hurry? We will wait some days or weeks. Have respect for someone's free time.
WB 2.8 will be coming. And 2.9. Than 3.0...  A lot of people use WB 2.6.5, so why this rush for 2.8?
If I had knowledge of php, I programmed with those guys. Unfortunately ...

Grtz,
Luc

Sorry for the sarcasm.
I am in no rush for 2.8 - next week, next month or next March will be fine as far as I am concerned.
Now that I know the project is relying on people finding the odd evening to spare I'll shut up.
Sorry I can't assist in the project as I too would find it difficult to fit it into an already full working week - even if I could code!
Best wishes to all those giving up their spare time.
Great product - just a shame it is stagnating.

Hello,

due too personal time lack haven't had time for WB last few weeks. So unfortunately dev of WB 2.8 seems to pause. Hope we now could release a RC a soon as possible. Will announce the new time-table next few days.

Don't you think that's somewhat besides the truth? Just because 2.8 is not coming as soon as planned, doesn't mean that WB as a product is stagnating. Almost daily the product is expanded and improved with all kinds of addons and tweaks. I'd say it's more alive than ever!

btw, we still could use people in variou parts of maintaining wb as whole!
Not only php coders are needed.

Look here for more info : https://forum.WebsiteBaker.org/index.php/topic,12870.0.html

Have fun,
John

I am patient too. The reason I asked was because I am transferring my sites to a new hoster and wondered if I should set up with 2.8.

The project pages still say:
Quote

I know that this is "old news" but any newcomer (including people I am trying to get to use WB) will think that this project has stagnated. I think the WB product is great, but just cringe whenever I see how the project is portrayed to the public.

Can someone not spent 2 minutes updating the site every now and again?

WB2.7 is a stable version, and WB as a project is not stagnated. There are addons developed all the time. WB is alive and kicking. There is nothing to keep you from using WB2.7. Sure we are all looking forward to a new release version, but many new features are already available as addons right now.

No one knows when WB2.8 will be out, so please don't ask for it. There is no company behind WB, and there is no team that can put a fixed amount of time and effort in the project. When people have time, they contribute. And when all set aims for WB2.8 are reached, it will be released. So please don't blame anyone that 2.8 is not there yet. Instead, support the project if you can in any way. If you cannot support it, just wait for 2.8 and use 2.7 until then. It's a fine CMS, and 2.8 is not some holy grail. It is just a new version, and it will be there one day.

Hello Jurgen.

If I see it right, he is not trying to blame anyone for the system itself.
He is just asking, if someone could take some responsibility regarding to official statements.
And he is right.

In some days we will have may and no one cares about the "old news".
That's no good for "any newcomer (including people I am trying to get to use WB)".

You're right Stefek, I misinterpreted his post. Sorry 'bout that.

I must say I didn't understand what he meant by 'project pages', but after some clicking around I discovered them. Never knew about those pages. So I don't think many (old and new) users will visit those pages, as they are clearly meant for developers and technically minded people who are interested in the development of the project.

Nevermind ;-)

But I would like to know what is going on.
Some statements were good for the community.

We all love this system and it was good to stay informed.
There is still a lot to do and to enhance but no one really seems to know what is going on.

Do you :-D

Stefek

Thanks for the overnight responses. Yes, I am very happy with 2.7 and whilst there is one bit of 2.8 that I am looking forward to, I can wait. It's just the misinformation on the WB website which holds me back from telling others (i.e. "developers and technically minded people") about what I feel is a very good product.

Me, I'm just asking...

since i've applied to help, and had no response :(

I've developped some new feature in a wb2.7 i've got here, but i can't really release a caching system as a plugin, do not seam to work properly, it need to be integrated.

Hi VotreEspace, hi all,

apologies if there was a delay in responses to the contact form, but there is so little time for everything.

There is always the possibility to create a ticket with all the information about a new feature, which you would like to see included in WebsiteBaker: http://project.websitebaker2.org/newticket

Please do include your name and possible or known restrictions in your code. Also, if the solution was posted in the forum, please include the link to the post. Currently the main focus is on getting WB2.8 done.

cheers

Klaus

Any status updates on the new version? I was planning my return to WB and site upgrade based around 2.8..... but my site upgrade has been majorly delayed.
(I have been using the SVN beta builds to get my ground work done.... got my backend and frontend templates done)

I hope things are going well.. and i hope it releases soon :)

Edit: nvm... project page now says July 1st release :)

Do you know if it is the "real" release date or just a date they want to finish the new version? ^^

That date means that 2.8 final will hit Subversion branch aka.. final.  I would assume it will be on front page soon after.

Either way its pretty well done.

hmm... didn't see any reference to RC on the project page when the date changed. I swear it mentioned something about a RC before the date change.

BTW.. I have been testing the svn builds with my setup i plan on using and it has been great so far.
