Title: Modules in WB 2.x ?
Post by: Luckyluke on November 18, 2008, 02:19:27 PM
Hi,

Years ago I was a good  programmer in (Visual) Basic, assembler, etc.
The transition from Visual Basic to PHP will perhaps not so easy, but I want to learn it.
Can anyone confirm me if the WB 2.7 modules (such as Hello World) also will work in WB 2.8, WB 2.9, 3.0?
I know they won't work in PlatformRad.

Grtz,
Luc

Just thinking out loud..  8-)

Nobody could do any promises on this.
Using normal versioning you can expect a version 2.7.x, 2.8.x and 2.9.x to be compatible.
Just as compatible as 2.6.x modules are in 2.7.
New features of a new version will probably not work. Minor updates might be needed for some modules.
The community will need PHP programmers to do that.. please start learning ;-)

Ahhh Lucky, what can I say??

Many, many. many years ago I started on Basic and Pascal (1981) later learned enough assembly , c++,  vb etc

Don't care if it will work in next version, the learning curve itself is the funpart... ;)
and if a module is needed in another version it will be adapted ( - assimilated, resistance is futile! -  :P )

Just join the club, php isn't that hard....

Beside, all the WB's will have a code page where you can enter plain and easy php to give it that extra umph.

Have fun,
John

I learned Basic somewhere in the winter of 1979 on a Tandy TRS-80.
Then Assembler (the Zilog Z-80) and in school Cobol, Assembler of the 6809, IBM S-36.
An yes, I learned Pascal, Turbo Pascal en my wife was Mega Pascale  :-D (born in Germany).
So, the step to PHP should be easy. I have to make some time for it...
