Title: Creating a Template with Selectable Color Themes
Post by: SnapDaddy on July 04, 2009, 09:51:59 PM
Hi All Bakers,

Don't know if anyone has done this before, but I wanted to design a template that allowed me to keep all template formatting the same, but just change the general color theme for different pages (link colors, hr colors, anything in the css file, background images, etc.).

I know I could have made several different templates, each having a different color theme with all of the supporting images duplicated, but that was a lot of overhead and excess to manage if I were to change the general layout (have to go back and change ALL templates).

So I came up with a compromise. I created one main template that contains all of the common formatting elements and support files and images, then I created my different color themes as striped down templates only containing the minimum WB requirements to install correctly.

Now, with a bit of php and changing the main templates path to the CSS files, you can select different color themes for your pages and all of the common formatting and files are all in one place without any duplication.

If anyone is interested, I could document how I did it.  :-D

this is the place for such tut's and helpdocumentations. ...the forum where we are!

so please if you have a real tricky stuff on the hand you wanna share - do it...

saying i can this and that - without explications is no real progress! maybe someone else can think your idea a little further and so such things can grow up here in the forum!  8-)

I don't have a place to put up a demo, but can take one of the existing WB templates and add my mods with support docs.

Since I have never contrib a template (always wanted too), I guess once I'm done I just post to the show case thread for testing  :?

I'll work on it over the next few days and get back to this thread!

Thanks  :-D

OK,

I created a Mutli Themes Template Set (red, green and blue) based on the WB ALL CSS template. I also created a quick doc with an explanation of how I made the mods to the ALL CSS template.

According to the Template Guidelines forum, I'm supposed to upload the templates to a new thread under the Website Showcase forum  :?

OK, just read in the Official Template Repository forum that I am supposed to email my zipped templates to Matthias (ruebenwurzel), Woudloper or Klaus (kweitzel). Is that the correct method?

Thanks

If you have made a template according to the template guidelines, open a thread in the forum board show case and attach your template as compressed file (*.zip). The community will review your template first.

if you have made a new topic for your improvments - you can crosslink to this threat that we find quicker your new post!

if you set up a new threat with your files and your doc about the changes - then you can send it to one of the mentioned leaders!

but at this time they are very busy to get 2.8 running - so there will be no much time for template stuff fron there site!

but if you will share your files i will test it and maybe others, too!

such ideas are always welcome!

if there is a dirty trick/little hack to get a chooseable colortemplate - i don't think it fit's this guidelines.....

but it is interesting for other WB (cracks/admins/templatecreators...)  :-)

first make a threat - then we will see what you will share! if this doesn't fit the temlate guidelines it wont be added to the repositry - but if it even works good it maybe helps others to get similar things startet or they can improve it, too...

How about I attached here. You guys can decide where you think it belongs. I would say this is more of a method that can be applied to any WB template then a actual template itself. I did use the ALL CSS template as an example, so if that meets the template guidelines, then my example should!

Feedback is welcomed.
