Title: HTML PHP Editor Question
Post by: dominic on March 31, 2008, 02:57:29 AM
On my development laptop I decided to install linux due to Windows hogging to many resources.  I still am running Windows on my travel laptop and my desktop.

I have been spoiled with Dreamweaver as Fireworks as my main development tools, along with a text based php editor that I liked.

Now I have Quanta Plus, NVU and Bluefish.  I like Quanta Plus best, but is there any commercial or more polished HTML/PHP editors like Dreamweaver?  I like the WYSIWYG integration so that is important, I am using Bluefish for straight PHP editing where I do not need the preview.

I know I can install Dreamweaver using wine, but I am trying to avoid going back to loading up the machines resources and memory, so I thought I would ask here if anyone has worked with any other package on a linux machine.

Thanks in advance,

Dominic

NUV/Kompozer is probably the closest to Dreamweaver, but falls far short in my opinion.

w3 has Amaya. Not sure how good it is. I'm going to have to check it out myself.

There's also Eclipse, but if you're looking to cut down on your resouces...
I think you have to install a ton of resources to get any kind of WYSIWYG and I don't think it's very advanced but I haven't check it out for awhile.

If you do install XP again, check out www.nliteos.com/

It apparently lets you create a "light" version of XP, none of the bloat or components you don't need. Heard claims that XPLite was a rip off of it.
