Title: My latest WB site
Post by: rabsaul on March 20, 2006, 11:52:23 AM
I went for the bold and bright look on this one.

http://www.public-square.org/

The structure employs three blank template pages for content blocks (2 in the center column, and the bottom "around the web" link box, lower right).

indeed, verry nice ... only thing I personally don't lik is the whitespace to the right ... it distracts the eye.

Cheers

Thanks, Klaus. How big is your browser window? Do you have a high screen resolution?

I use 1024 by 768 with the browser window on fullscreen (on a 15" monitor ...)

I think you do a 800 by 600 ... maybe try centering the content and/or set a body backgroundcolor fitting the rest ... but I think the centering should be the way to go ...

cheers

Thanks.

For my taste, there's not too much white space at that size, but any higher resolution certainly would be.

I usually center fixed-width sites, but preferred the left-align on this one.

Maybe I'll try adding something to the background, but I had already tried a couple of different things that really weren't working for me.

Nice site, I like the colors.. But I have to agree about the white space on the right.. I run at 1280x1024 on a 19 inch display.

see, the problem with the whitespace to the rigt, is that it really distracts the eye from the content ... because it is the brightest area of the screen ...

If it is noticable at a 1024 by 768 resolution displayed on a 15" CRT (i know, outdated, but does the job still very well) than it distracts the eye too much ... measured it is approx 4 cm (1.6 inch) of the available display area wide. That is more than 10 percent (remember, the display area is approx 1 inch smaller than the screenarea) ...

I don't want to be rude, but you should do something about this I think ...

cheers and keep up the good ideas(!)

I get it already!

But I've got lots of other things on the go.

Very original and nicely conceived in the main content area.

I too, don't like the treatment on the right. I think it would look good using the background color on the links area, or even something a slight bit redder, for the page background.

You're not seeing what they were talking about, which was a pure white page.

That said, I had a lot of other stuff going on, so I just put that gradient up for now. I will revisit it at some point.

Thanks for your comments!

hmm ... it is much better that the whitespace ...

maybe another idea (just ranting about):

again, break out of the ordinary and align everything to the right. I think about 90% of the worlds populatin are righthanded and tend to favour the right eye.

cheers
