Because I'd like to keep photos in jpg format. Photo can be added/deleted with ease whereas for animated gif you have to create a new one on every change, it is way more configurable and the photo transition effects are a lot smoother.

Argos:
Luc, a GIF image has maximum of 256 colors, while JPG supports millions... So GIF is never a good option for normal photographs on websites.

Allright, I understand. And I think that this "fade-in slideshow" is even a better option than using flash.
I will give it a try for my next project.
