Case Study - My experiences with WB
brownj:
Hi everyone!
I am currently working on my first WB website. Its going to be a personal website just with a few thoughts and things. When I started the project, I just wanted to test my design skills after a two year break of making websites. Its been a struggle so far, but I am just starting to get to grips with WB and CSS, which is great!
My intentions for this thread is to provide a case study of someone quite new to CMS, and the problems I have incurred and how I dealt with them.
I have found the template tutorial very useful, and I think there will be a few things I can add to it after I have finally completed this. Just so you know, I almost gave up four weeks ago thinking I couldnt do it, but I am glad I kept going: its not as hard as it seems. And I want to show other newbies, like me, that it is possible.
my website can be found at http://www.brownj.co.uk/wb/
Best,
Jez

What I am currently working on:
- Cleaning my room!
- Changing the menu with CSS, using Listomatic tutorial.
- Working out the bug that means the "home" button doesnt appear until you roll over it. (any help appreciated)
- Cleaning up the CSS
- Installing modules.

Still getting used to CSS, but its a damn powerful tool.
Tell me what you think of my site? http://www.brownj.co.uk/wb/
Any suggestions on improvements would be welcomed. I know the top image is too big, but I like the picture and now I guess it will have to stay.
I will make the lil buttons do something when I add the proper content.
This is a great community you have here. I have been reading Klaus' comments , you are a clever and creative person!
What I have left to do is add the correct content; add a WB link; make a second menu; add some jazzy fun things; and add a redirect page to my index.

it looks quite nice, but imagesize does matter ... I called the page and waited for 10 sec and then left ... wrote a little post (about 100 words) and came back. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't have come back to actually look at the page because initial loading time would have been to long.
Then after seeing the code I realised it took some time to preload the images ... and that is not so good.
Have a look into the option of "Source Ordered Layouts", where the content is loaded first and then design is applied.
keep on the nice work, cheers
Klaus

I see, thanks for the advice. I dont know what source ordered layouts are, but I will take a look on google.
Are you on dial-up? 10 secs is too long. I think I need to work to change this.
