New, fairly large, school site

Well done. Did you create your own template? Any chance of sharing it? I am curious how you did it and did so well.

cushy:
Thanks for the compliments.  As for the template, we modified the Simple template a bit, that's all.

The menu is from opencube.com, and is not tied to WB for automatic linking.

I must say that it holds up very well!  We have about 200 people with permission to update.  Most don't, but we did trainings in groups of 30, everyone in one day, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.

We aim to use this as a primary front end for our school, and link some teachers and courses to a Moodle for more attachments and course work.

The site looks very nice. However it takes a very, very, very long time to load on a dialup modem. I checked a couple of your images and they need to be optimized. A lot. For example the image students2.jpg is 108KB, which is a good 50% larger than the recommended size for an entire page. I ran it through Photoshop Save For Web and reduced the file size to 17KB and it still looked fine.

If you expect this site to work for the general public, you really need to attend to image optimization.

cushy:
Thanks for the response Michael.  Yes, we have a ways to go in that area.  I made this with a team of kids in a very short time frame.  We'll be revisiting all images, "Saving for web" is huge for me, and even editing the template.  For example, removing the background images from the left and right side of the template, as they don't add enough to justify the "weight".

Suggestions are welcome, this site was done very quickly to satisfy administrative requests, and did not follow thorough and established procedures.

generic:
so when you add a new page to the main menu do you have to do it using opencube, outside of wb?.

I am trying to find the time to finish a simple drop down menu template based upon this site  [ http://www.cdahuizen.nl/ ] , for everyone to use. Hopefully I will have time tomight to finish it and comment the style sheet so everyone knows where and what to change, etc.
