That was how Chio has done the downselection of available templates as he started his Template showcase. He put an Excel file together with lots of information about available templates, pros- and cons, quality and much more. Maybe this "old" list is a good starting point.

This is a great idea.  It could be very helpful to have such a list for each template, with a particular focus on functionality rather than appearance.  As mentioned in other posts, the appearance/aesthetics of a template is a matter of taste.  But functionality can be critical.   Wouldn't it be great, for example, to know which templates have a fully functioning dropdown menu which displays correctly in all browsers! :-P
